1. Congratulations on your win, William! How did you feel when you were announced as the 2024 CEOs Network Africa Award winner for the “Chikaosolu Ojukwu SAN Lawyer of the Year”? What does this recognition mean to you personally and professionally?
I felt deeply honored and proud of my decision to specialize in Entertainment Law. As Tunde Onakoya aptly puts it, “great things can be done from a small place.” This perspective has reinforced my belief that people are always observing, even when it feels like no one notices. In time, with dedication and perseverance, the right moment will come, and you will undoubtedly step into the spotlight.
2. What inspired you to pursue a career in law?
Pursuing a legal career was inspired by the profound admiration I had for my dad’s friend, who served as our family lawyer. Watching him navigate complex situations with grace and determination left an indelible mark on me. As I grew older, I came to appreciate the significant role lawyers play in addressing societal challenges, protecting rights, and driving meaningful change.
The intellectual depth and analytical rigor of the legal profession further drew me in, offering a profound sense of purpose. Choosing to become a lawyer felt like the natural fulfillment of my aspirations. Specializing in Entertainment Law, in particular, allows me to combine my creative instincts with my commitment to promoting fairness within the creative industry.
3. What advice would you give to young lawyers aspiring to excellence?
My advice to young lawyers is this: little things are little things, but the way you go about it is what matters. While little things may seem insignificant, the approach and diligence you apply to them are what truly matter. The small actions you take today lay the foundation for your future success or otherwise. Focus on the details, stay curious and eager to learn, cultivate resilience, and most importantly, be your greatest advocate and promoter.
